a.bloc Cycling Shoot

Some of you may know that Keith and I are designers, and that means we have a lot of designer friends. We thought we’d try our hand at cycling photography in the Los Angeles arts district with a fellow designer. She designed a cycling kit, and she’s a cyclist herself. (A kit is what the cyclists wear – I know, I didn’t know that either…)

For the feel of the shoot, we wanted these photographs to feel urban, gritty, and dark. After all, cyclists often wake up before dawn to get their ride in. The light is low, it’s chilly, and we wanted our photos to reflect that.

The DTLA (Downtown Los Angeles) Arts District is quickly becoming one of our favorite spots to shoot.

To get these shots, Keith drove a Honda Element with the back hatch open, and I shot with a zoom out the back. It was ridiculously fun and definitely a pretty big difference from shooting weddings!

We ended the shoot at Wurstkuche on Traction. Sausages and beer was in order after our 4 hour active photo shoot. Too much fun. A photographer could get used to this…
